Where Should Your Next Destination Be?

After researching the travel industry for this project, I stumbled across several publications that addressed the best places to travel. I went through these articles and noticed that a couple of them listed the same places. I found the places frequently listed very interesting, as they weren’t the the typical travel destination such as “Santorini” or “Paris”. According to these articles, some of the best places to travel included:
1. New Orleans, Louisiana
I thought this was really cool, as this place is right in the United States! The article “These Are the Best Places to Travel in 2018” suggests that “New Orleans has rejuvenated itself since the 2005 devastation of Hurricane Katrina with investment in the arts, dining and hospitality” (Jenkins, 2017, para. 8). In addition, the article “The 18 Best Places for a Big Trip in 2018” states that in New Orleans “Mardi Gras floats will retell the founding story of Nouvelle-Orléans; Jazz Fest will have a lineup for the ages; and at no point should you skip the ongoing exhibition Prospect 4, a treasure map of murals and sculptures raising the city's up-and-coming arts profile beyond the blur of purple and green fleurs-de-lis” (2018, para. 3). It seems like there’s a lot of activities to do in New Orleans, making it a perfect travel destination!
2.Copenhagen, Denmark
According to the article “These Are the Best Places to Travel in 2018”, travel to Copenhagen has “increased by more than 80% over the past decade” (Jenkins, 2017, para. 4). This makes sense, as the article “Top Cities” talks about how “the city’s booming street-food scene is smashing it on Refshaleøen, where a former shipyard is now rebooted food and craft market Reffen. Amusement park Tivoli Gardens is beating the winter blues with a new February season, while waste-management centre Amager Bakke has jaws dropping with its rooftop ski slope and hiking trails” (2017, para. 1). I hope to get to Copenhagen soon, perhaps when I’m studying abroad in Europe next semester!
3.Mexico City, Mexico
Last, but certainly not least, is Mexico City! The article “The 18 Best Places for a Big Trip in 2018” states that “the city formerly known as Distrito Federal is a heterogeneous mixture of European and indigenous Mesoamerican, of rich and poor, of spotless colonial boulevards and dingy side alleys” (2018, para. 33). In addition, the article “Top Cities” states that “the pre-Hispanic buildings of the Mexica rise from the city’s soft ground while colonial cathedrals stand fast and modern wonders such as the Museo Soumaya sparkle in the ever-present sun” (2017, para. 6). I think it’s really cool Mexico City offers so much diversity, and I think this makes a really unique place to visit!
Now, I only came across these places because I was conducting research for a project. As mentioned in some of my previous posts, people aren't necessarily turning to travel publications for travel advice and inspiration anymore. So, below you'll find some videos from travel influencers that talk about the best places to travel. Feel free to check these out, as these will probably resonate with you more!
